Team Building The Apple Rock Way

As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.” Her quote still rings true today in many facets of life, particularly the corporate environment. This statement is especially true for our company. Team work is a staple in our success and one of the reasons we have been in flourishing in the face-to-face event marketing industry for 27 years.

We are not alone either, in fact most small businesses have to work together in highly effective teams to ensure the success of the company. According to the experts at INC. Magazine, team building activities are a great tool to utilize when trying to get people to build relationships or cooperate in different environments than they are accustomed to. These activities teach many qualities and skills that transfer well into daily office life, such as:

  • Improve employee relations
  • Help develop new skills
  • Hone skills that have been previously taught
  • Address and bring to life weaknesses
  • Increase interdepartmental communication
  • Teaches problem solving techniques
  • Ease existing conflicts

Learning or having a refresher course on these skills is a great way to keep employees operating together as a well-oiled machine, increasing productivity and overall happiness in the work place. Each year our company hosts a day full of team building activities, which have come to be known as the Apple Rock Games. On this day, we close the office, take off to a fabulous destination and spend the day together, participating in a variety of team building challenges designed to bring out the best in all of us both personally and professionally.

“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”       – Vince Lombardi

This year, we went to Xtreme Challenge and participated in challenges designed to test our ability to work together as a cohesive unit while accomplishing tasks, much like our daily office life. We had to build a working car, raft and complete several obstacle courses that required trust, cooperation, good communication, quick thinking and problem solving skills. Plus, we had a terrific lunch, shared lots of laughs and learned that together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

Team work is essential to our business. Without it we would not be able to produce amazing results for our clients and so many award-wining displays.  These teambuilding activities teach us how to successfully work together for the betterment of us all and the company we proudly work for.
